The advantage of creating our own affiliate system is that our biggest cost would simply be the time needed to develop it . We already had the great ability to build everything internally. But, as you can see, there are a lot of moving parts and things to take into account when deciding whether to do it yourself or adopt a third-party solution. I'll go into more detail later, but to understand how we started building our product it's helpful to know the basic data flow. The entry point into the system is a special link that contains an affiliate ID. We call it Kinsta Affiliate ID or KAID for short Most other affiliate tools are confusing when looking for which URL to use and which resource to link to. So from the beginning we wanted to create a simple process, divided into two phases. Step 1 The first step was to enter the destination on the Kinsta website.
This could be any page on the site, not just our home page. Our affiliates may want to link Country Email List directly to our plans page (like in the example below). Create a Kinsta affiliate link Create a Kinsta affiliate link Step 2 The second step would be to generate the link for them, so that they can easily copy and paste it anywhere they want. Additionally, you must provide the accompanying HTML with the rel=”sponsored” attribute (which is very important) to comply with Google's guidelines for affiliate links. Google previously recommended using the nofollow attribute , which is still a valid option. Creating an affiliate link and related HTML code Creating an affiliate link and related HTML code When we detect a visitor using one of these links, we set a cookie that contains information about who the user referred. We value the initial referral and do not offer split commissions.
This is fairer to the affiliate and leads to competition based on quality rather than quantity. Stripe handles all purchasing, and we use its extensive and (most importantly) well-documented API to create users, subscriptions, initiate payments, and more. The purchase flow takes place on the website, which in turn uses MyKinsta's internal API to initiate the procedures necessary for the user's registration. Information about who referred the customer is also recorded in our system. The MVP (Start to Build) Whenever you launch something new, it may be wise to build an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) and start marketing right away to test the waters. collect feedback as soon as possible and learn from it. Adapt, modify and make improvements. This is exactly what we did when we first launched Kinsta, and this is how we grew our revenue from $0 to 7 figures .
